Finding ancestoea from Lorraine

I have found a group of my family from Bas Rhin Alsace by sheer luck.

I had the town Wissembourg and I found the site Adeloch which has lists of births marriages and deaths.

However my maternal side is more complicated...all I have is that she lists Lorraine as her family's birthplace how do I go about finding towns from the 1860's and earlier.

Hi Elizabeth,

I wish I could give you some good news.

When you don't have any idea of where an ancestor is from (just a region), you have to go through every little village and town.

It's long and tedious.

So if you can get even the slightest clue about where your ancestor might be from (to narrow down your search), do it.

Anything that will help you narrow down the search will save you hours (and more).
