Halloween in Alsace

We are staying in Ammerschwihr in late October with children aged 6 & 8 and were wondering if the Alsatians celebrate Halloween and if so will we be able to join in the fun?

Halloween in Alsace

Hi Tim,

Halloween is decidedly a North American tradition. Only in the past few years have I seen the occasional Halloween activities here in Alsace.

That doesn't mean there won't be anything at all, but it will not be a big thing.

You could try to go trick or treating with your kids, but many houses will not have any candy. It's very hit or miss.

All Hallow's Eve traditions in Alsace are a bit less interesting to kids now a days.

It invovles carving up sugar beets and putting candles in or on them usually.

Not exactly fun and excitement in comparison with American Halloween ; )
