Least busy times of the year with less crowds in Alsace

How busy is Alsace in May? We want to visit touristy places like Riquewihr, Eguisheim, Colmar and Strasbourg.

How cold is it in May? Are September and October real busy as well?

Crowded Touristy Places in Alsace

I used to tell people that the high season was May to August and December...

Now and this is especially true for the towns and villages that are touristy, they are getting more and more crowded outside of the high tourist season.

Of course as a tour guide, I know where to go to avoid them : )

Many people hire me for this very reason. I can make sure their visit is charming and free of tourist hordes even in December...

The weather in Alsace is cold in winter, cold/cool in Spring, hot (usually) in summer and cool/cold in the fall.

With cool to cold, you need a wool sweater, perhaps a coat, hat, gloves, scarf.

With cold, you need a few layers of clothes, a coat, a hat, a scarf, gloves, etc...

In the summer, you need a cold drink and a swimming pool ; ) especially on hot days.

Of course that depends on where you are from and what you are used to.

My family is from the southern United States and they think it's not possible to visit Alsace in the winter without wearing ski under garments plus a few layers plus the coat, hat, gloves and scarf.

But there is pleny of vin chaud to keep you warm ; ) so it balances out nicely.
