I have had a hard time finding any info about him or his family.He came to NYC around the age of 18.A very gentle man who worked for the railroad.

Can you give more info?

Three things that are important.

Name- check
Dates-not as important as most people think for doing research

Where- what village or town or anything narrower than Alsace- SUPER important

Unless of course you love spending years looking through badly handwritten records in French or German.

If you can find any info that gets you closer to where your ancestor is from, you will have much more chance of success with your project.

PS Kieffer is a pretty common name.
Which makes things more challenging unless you have a clear connection between other verified family members.
