Hi Karen,

Without any other info, it's pretty hard to know where in Alsace or Lorraine your family might have lived. Those are two different regions with quite a lot of villages and towns.

All records are based on the village or town, so it's very important to find what you're looking for.

Otherwise, you will have to look through all the towns and villages in both departments until you find something.

The ships log said they were from Lorraine, that narrows it, but only slightly. My great grandmother, Rose Stice had been told he came from an area close to Switzerland. Other things she had said I have been able to document, so this may be true also. Lots of research work to do.

Easter Stice is my ggggg grandmother. Easter was Charles and Katys daughter. There is a very extensive family tree on ancestry, wiki, heritage, etc. The spelling is Steiss to Stice. The ship docs when Charles Carl arrived in the U.S.spelled it Stys. All Stice dependents in the U.S. are from Charles and Katys.

I've read that Charles Carl Steiss arrived from Europe to Philadelphia in 1754 at the age of 16 years old. Somehow, the math doesn't add up.

Charles Carl Stice was born in Alsace Germany in 1745. He traveled to America with the Collins family after his parents died when he was 9. Haven’t been able to find out how they died but it seems that they passed away together. His parents were Karl and Mary (Baker) Stice. Karl’s parents (Charles Carl grandparents) were Ludwig and Mary (Ziegler) Stice.
