Trying to trace my grandmother 's name

by Angela Juso
(Brisbane Australia)

I was born in Strasbourg but I am interested in finding my grandmother and the only way I can think of is through birth certificates of her children. She was a Ukrainian and in a labour camp.

She had a Russian first name and married a German soldier named Muller. She had 4 girls: my mum Claire Muller born in 1943, Solange Muller and twins Silvie and Karine Muller.

She died a while back from a stroke. Where do you think I should start? Mum seems to remember her name being something like Jewdokija Pavlowa.

Hi Angela,

I would expect you could find out more about here on your mother's or your aunt's birth certificates if you don't know your grandmother's name.

To find your grandmother's birth certificate, you would need her name and a general idea of where she was born. What year would also be useful, but not as important as where.

Hope it helps,
Suzele
